Video: Dr Stephen Sinatra explains Earthing

Ranked #15 on Newsmax’s Top 100 list of integrative doctors, Dr Stephen Sinatra is a strong advocate of earthing. His credentials are impressive. Dr Sinatra is a board certified cardiologist and fellow at the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Nutrition with more than 35 years of clinical practice. Sinatra is also an educator and writer of several books including Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever.

In this 3 minute video, Sinatra gives a clear, matter-of-fact introduction to earthing with a focus on free radicals. He uses an example that will appeal to most Australians – walking on the beach. That’s right! Walking on the sand is good for us as it actually helps our body detoxify and get rid of free radicals.

Dr Sinatra says: “Our bodies are so full of free radicals caused by anything from heavy metals to air pollution to transfats. I mean our body is being inundated with a firestorm of free radicals. So you gotta put the fire out. You can put that fire out in many different ways.”

Earthing or grounding is one of those ways.

What’s really happening when you are going to the beach you are grounding yourself. Whether you are in the water or walking on the sand, that really shifts the autonomic nervous system to a point where it is functioning better. That’s what it is all about. When walk barefoot you soaking up millions of free electrons into your body so you are detoxifying the body.”

Those valuable free electrons from earthing work as antioxidants in the body.

In 2017 interview with Dr Jospeh Mercola, Dr Sinatra described earthing as putting the body into what he callshealth mode, as opposed to disease mode”. It does this in a number of ways.

Research has found that earthing improves blood flow and autonomic nervous system functioning.

Earthing thins hypercoagulable blood (blood that is sluggish and slow moving). Hypercoagulable blood increases the risk of stroke or blood clot, and sets the stage for disease. As Sinatra says: “If you can increase the thinning of your blood naturally by grounding, you can fight off disease. Not only heart disease and stroke, but I’m thinking cancer, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, or any illness that requires good oxygenation to the tissues.”

Earthing also cultivates good health by shifting the autonomic nervous system into calming mode, which in turn supports heart rate variability. As Dr Mercola says, “anytime you improve heart rate variability, you’re improving the entire organism — in this case, your entire body and all its functions.
