What is an Earthing Sheet Underlay?
It is a thin underlay for earthing that you place directly under the regular cotton sheet that you sleep on.

Better Earthing Fabric
Our Patented Antibacterial Grounding fabric made with the highest quality medical grade (316L) solid stainless steel fibre (35%) and German-made Tencel with natural mineral antibacterial fibre (65%).
The fitted side walls are 100% cotton and 40cm (16 inches) deep, and 50 cm deep (19.68 inches) in larger king sizes.
Fabric Feel & Appearance
This custom fabric has 35% Stainless Steel fibre by weight, and stainless steel fibres are around 5 times the weight of similar-sized cotton or Tencel fibres. This ensures that the fabrics do NOT feel hard or metallic.
It feels like very soft denim fabric. It breathes well and will earth effectively for many years while sleeping directly on your favourite cotton or natural fibre sheets.
Comparison to Other Earthing Sheets and Sleep Mats
Unlike silver or carbon-based earthing sheets or sleep mats, you don’t need to be concerned about damage from various ingredients in body creams, lotions, essential oils, magnesium oils, sulphur in heavy sweat or body oil or hair oil. Better Earthing fabric underlays are far superior to black carbon-coated earthing sleep mats made from Polyurethane (marketed as Leatherette), and low 3-5% silver-coated fibre cotton sheets which are often white with a grey grid pattern.
Both styles are very low-cost Chinese-made products, using low-cost materials, with short limited warranties. We back our underlays with a 3-year warranty.
Many earthing products have only a 1-year manufacturer warranty that applies only to defects. Some makers say their products should last for years or a lifetime, but they only offer a short warranty.

Indoor Earthing Explained
This Better Earthing Sleep System comes with a special adapter plug and lead designed for earthing indoors.
All Australian and New Zealand power points have a third ‘earth’ pin (at the bottom) that is wired to a metal rod or plate buried in the ground. This safety mechanism is called grounding – it’s there to send excess electricity back into the ground (earth). Indoor Earthing products use ground wiring in your home to safely pass free electrons from the earth to your indoor earthing product, then to you.
No electricity is used. You can earth with the power point turned off. The top two prongs of Better Earthing adapter are plastic, instead of metal like a normal plug, so no a/c current from your electricity mains can pass through.
For added safety, Better Earthing leads have a 50,000 ohm safety resistor, plus fine wires inside like fuse-wire. This protects against the very rare event of a power surge via a building’s earth wiring. If the nearby ground were struck with lighting, barely a mosquito bite of electricity could pass through this resistor.
Better Earthing adapter and lead conduct earth’s energy only. This is a safe and easy way to receive the earth’s health-enhancing free electrons from the comfort of your home.
You can use an autorange multimeter (sold separately) to verify that your products are correctly Earthed via the power point. Compare the amount of electrical voltage carried in your body when you are not earthed, compared to when you are earthed. You’ll be amazed by how much excess AC electricity your body can pick up from surrounding electrical cables and devices and how much it dissipates (reduces) when earthed.
There is also an optional outdoor earthing rod and 15m lead if you don’t wish to earth via the indoor earthed wall socket.

How do I know if my fitted earthing sheet underlay is working?

I’ve noticed a tingling feeling while earthing. Is that normal?
Tingling and warmth are a sign that your circulation is improving. It’s quite normal for people feel this when they start earthing with an earthing sheet underlay.
I can see two connection points on my fitted earthing sheet underlay. Do I need two leads?
No. We provide two connection points on Better Earthing sheet underlays for your convenience so you can easily reach the wall outlet on either the left or right side of bed.
Which type of sheet is best to use on top of the Better Earthing sheet underlay?
We’ve found that bamboo viscose sheets are not as effective or as strong for grounding as cotton sheets. However, bamboo lyocell blend sheets are fine for earthing.
To keep it simple, we suggest 100% Cotton sheets. 100% Cotton Flannelette, Linen, Silk, Lyocell / Tencel, or Wool are all good.
Avoid polyester blend and bamboo (Viscose) as they do not earth as well. Synthetic and semi-synthetic sheets don’t hold moisture as well as cotton.
Moisture in the fabric is required because it creates tiny conductive channels for the earth’s free electrons to travel through. This moisture comes from the humidity in the air and from our body (which always gives off some moisture even without perspiring).
Do I need to have bare skin contact for Better Earthing products to work?
No. Your bare skin does not need to touch our Better Earthing sheet underlay for it to work. Our earthing sheet underlays are designed to work through clothing. The slightest of body moisture or humidity in your socks, clothes, or sheets creates conductive channels that very effectively pass earth from your Better Earthing product to you. Most other earthing sheets are designed for direct contact with bare skin as they use a low percentage of conductive material (3-8% silver-coated fibre) and cannot maintain their original conductivity for long. Our custom made earthing fabric has around 35% medical grade (316L) solid stainless steel fibre (of the highest quality). You can see the conductive metal with a strong magnifying glass. Our Tencel fabric is also certified as antibacterial and is strongly hygienic.
Can I use an electric blanket with my earthing sheet underlay?
Yes, you can use an electric blanket alongside your Better Earthing sheet underlay. Actually, it can be beneficial as earthing shields the body from AC electrical fields. With a multimeter, you can see the volts in your body go up when you sit on an electric blanket. Earthing brings those volts down.
We suggest placing your earthing sheet underlay over the top of the electric blanket and then having the regular cotton sheet that you sleep on as the top layer.
The earthing strength will likely be a little weaker for the first 30 minutes with your electric blanket. Then it will return to normal. That’s because electric blankets will dry out the regular cotton sheets on top. When you get into bed, just the slightest of moisture from your body will go back into the regular cotton sheets being slept on (usually within 30 minutes of being in bed). This tiny amount of moisture creates tiny conductive channels for free electrons to travel through.
Will creams, lotions, oils, or heavy sweat and body oil damage your earthing sheets?
No, as we use medical grade stainless steel fibres that are not damaged or oxidised by these. Many lotions, body oil and our sweat (which always contains sulphur) is a huge problem for earthing sheets using a low 3 to 10% silver coated fibre. Even sheets with a high % of silver can be damaged easily where the silver coating is thin and cheap and not coated with a good anti oxidising agent.
Washing detergents that contain bleach can also quickly oxidise silver and stop those sheets from earthing.
To understand how robust your earthing sheet is, always look at the warranty period and limitations, especially around conductivity and oxidisation. Black carbon coated Polyurethane products also have shorter warranties, and for good reasons.

I am loving the earthing sheets. I am sleeping much better and feeling more stable energy throughout the day. I’ve got chronic inflammatory condition that both makes it hard to sleep and have energy through the day and I am noticing a subtle but also big difference with the sheets. It’s not that I sleep without any interruptions like I’m on a sedative or something, but more like sleep comes quicker and stays longer – like the sheets create a friendly relationship in my body with sleep.

The grounding underlay is fantastic, I had a deep sleep for the first time in years since I transitioned into perimenopause, and now menopause, 8 years ago. If you are trying to decide where to buy your grounding products from, stop scrolling… I’ll save you the the time! I highly recommend this company, not only is their customer service outstanding, their products work. I have had the underlay for almost 4 years, and my lifelong migraines are gone, yep, and no more migraine meds – I took a lot! My thyroid medication was halved and I didn’t need to crawl out of bed in the morning with my back injury. A side effect however is… no hangovers😂 I don’t often drink, but when I do, it used to hit me for days… not now. I am up bright and breezy the next day! Almost 4 years later the underlay got a bit scratchy due to use, and I stopped using it. After realising I had been taking medication again I contacted them to buy another and they replaced it under warranty with their new improved version! Such an unexpected surprise! Just as good as the previous one if not better. The material is lovely to sleep on under my sheet. I am now my old self again without the headaches!!!

I’m finding this journey re: grounding to be very interesting.
I find myself looking more forward to going to bed nowadays because I’m looking forward to laying on the grounding sheet. I think it’s helping.
I’m recovering from long COVID and when your sheet arrived, I also started experimenting with cold water dipping. I guess it’s challenging to know how much the sheet is helping, how much is natural healing and how much the cold water dipping is helping.
However, I have a good feeling whilst laying on the sheet. The long COVID fatigue has been settling. I’m doing more physical activity and I wonder if I’ll feel aches and pains in the morning after having 3 months of very little activity – but I don’t, or I have very little. So little that it surprises me. I think my nervous system and the inflammation is calming.
In summary, I’m glad I bought it, I think it is helping, and I really like it.

We purchased the Better Earthing Sheet Underlay. Presentation of the product and information on arrival was amazing but more amazing is the Earthing Sheet Underlay. We’ve had better sleep from the very first night, longer more sound sleep, able to get back to sleep after waking through the night. We both feel much more relaxed and less tension in our bodies. I have suffered with cramps in my legs for many years, using Tonic water to ease cramps but since sleeping on the earthing sheet, cramps have stopped. Headaches which I have had each morning when I wake up have stopped. Overall our general wellbeing is incredibly better. We wish we had known about this sooner but happy now that we are sleeping on our earthing sheet underlay. You certainly have pride in your product, in your presentation of same and in your business.
