Benefits
Faster Recovery – Grounding helps reduce inflammation and muscle soreness. It’s used by pro athletes, including Tour de France teams, to support better sleep and faster recovery. Watch an interview with Sports Chiropractor Dr Jeff Spence.
EMF Protection – Ideal for those sensitive to EMFs, this shielding bag creates a low-EMF recovery zone, supporting rest and repair in high-EMF areas like apartments and hotels.
How EMF Shielding Works
EMF shielding fabric acts like a barrier, reducing the intensity of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) by blocking and deflecting their energy. This reduction is known as attenuation, a term used in physics to describe the weakening of a signal. The level of attenuation is measured in decibels (dB), with independent lab tests showing how well the shielding fabric performs at different EMF frequencies (see our lab test results).
Common EMF Frequencies in Australia
Here are the typical EMF/EMR sources you’ll find in most Australian homes:
3G mobile networks – 850 MHz, 900 MHz, and 2100 MHz
4G mobile networks – from 700 MHz up to 2600 MHz
5G and newer devices – currently operating at 3.5 GHz, as well as using 4G bands
Smart meters – often transmit between 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz
WiFi routers – generally run at 2.4 GHz, with dual-band models also using 5 GHz depending on the settings
Do I Need to Cover My Head for EMF Protection?
The EMF & Earthing Recovery Bag is long enough to include your head if desired. You can put your pillow in the bag, or underneath. In most cases, people sleep with their head undercover for comfort or breathability reasons. If you want protection for your head, we recommend using lightweight, breathable mesh-like shielding such as that used for canopies or curtains.
What’s Better for Earthing – an Earthing Sleeping Bag or an Underlay?
If your main goal is earthing, a dedicated underlay generally delivers a stronger effect. That’s because earthing strength depends on body surface contact, product size, pressure (like your body weight), and how long you use it. A full underlay beneath you, especially in direct contact, provides the most effective connection. That said, combining an underlay with an earthing recovery bag or top layer above your sheets may increase the effect slightly. If you’re new to earthing or dealing with chronic conditions like CFS, Lyme, or autoimmune illness, it’s wise to start slowly. Our Ease Into Earthing Box is designed to help with a gentler introduction.
Comparison to other Recovery Bags
Most recovery bags do not include enough metal fibre to be EMF shielding. They tend to be made from silver-coated nylon or silver-coated copper. While effective at first, silver is prone to oxidising. Sweat, skin oils, creams, and certain laundry products (especially those with bleach or brighteners) can speed up this process. Oxidation reduces the fabric’s shielding performance and, in the case of silver-coated copper, can cause visible copper staining as the silver layer wears away.
Our EarthShield® fabric avoids these issues by using stainless steel fibres instead of silver. You can use any creams or lotions. It won’t oxidise or degrade over time, even with regular use. Additionally, we use the world’s highest quality zip from YKK. That’s why we confidently offer a 3-year warranty on materials, earthing, and shielding.
