3 Simple Ways to Boost Your Energy & Mood this Festive Season

It’s December and the holiday season is on the horizon.

What with buying presents, festive gatherings, travel,  hosting friends and/or relatives – our energy levels can be exhausted. And if you are feeling tired and run down, the festive season doesn’t seem so jolly!

Here are three simple, practical tips to lift your energy and mood, starting with this one for the whole family.

1. Have Xmas Gatherings at a Beach or a Garden

Whenever you spend time swimming in the ocean, walking barefoot at the beach or sitting on the grass, you are earthing. New research suggests that Earthing can improve your mood. A pilot study was conducted with 40 adult participants who were divided into two groups. One were sham-earthed and the other group had real earthing. After one hour, the earthing group scored significantly higher, being more positive, more relaxed, less tired on a Brief Mood Scale Tool compared to the sham earthing group.

So why not have your Xmas outside so the whole family can relax and feel good!

If the grass is soft, ditch the picnic blanket. Free electrons from the earth’s surface can travel through clothes, especially if the grass is green. The moisture in your clothes provides a highway for those free electrons to travel down. Or place your bare feet on the ground (rather than on the picnic rug).

Planning for Christmas on the beach? Don’t let the kids have all the fun. Spend as much time in the ocean as them! Fun physical activity is a great way to offset all that Xmas food and you’ll get a good dose of earthing too. Saltwater is an extremely good conductor of free electrons from the earth. Free electrons act like antioxidants in the body fighting off excess free radicals and inflammation, which can boost the body’s healing processes. Plus breathing in the negative ions from the sea air can increase the flow of oxygen levels to the brain giving a feeling of alertness and more mental energy according to Pierce J  Howard author of ‘The Owners Manual for the Brain: Everyday Applications from Mind-Brain Research‘.

Even more reason to have a fun day at the beach.

2. Eat Foods that Make Your Tummy Happy

Feeling bloated or having indigestion generally makes people feel irritable and can trigger negative thinking.

The idea that gut health influences mood is now well-established. One research study involving women found that eating half a cup of yoghurt twice a day for just two weeks resulted in a calmer state of mind! If you’re not keen on yoghurt or are lactose intolerant, kefir is a probiotic-rich alternative. Consider eating more yoghurt or kefir in the lead up to Xmas – it could boost your mood and your digestion!

3. Take your Earthing products when you Travel

Whether you’ve been earthing regularly for a short time or long time, chances are you’ll miss it if you stop. This is especially the case for people with arthritis or ongoing pain and stiffness. It’s not uncommon to experience a return of symptoms when you stop earthing. Earthing is a lifestyle practice and you need to do it daily.

Take time to walk barefoot at the beach or on the grass if convenient and safe. Pack your earthing pillowcase, mat or traveller. A pillowcase is a handy size for travelling as it doesn’t take up much room in a carry-on or a small case. Taking a large suitcase? Then pack your universal traveller (half-sheet) that fits any size bed. If you are going overseas, ensure that the travel adapter has a metal earth pin and connects well to your green Better Earthing Adapter. We find the type with the round earthing pin hole (on the right) usually don’t earth properly. If you have any questions, please call or send us an email.
